This hike goes up Breast Peak (1456 m) from Lake Hawea Station. This is a private track belonging to Lake Hawea Station and open to public only for the Hike for a Cure event on March 29th 2025, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Cure in New Zealand.
The event was very well organized. At 8am about 300 hikers started walking up the 4WD track. The slope progressively gets steeper until reaching kilometer 5.26 when it joins Grandview Ridge Track. From there the slope is mild or flat until the very last 150 meters or so when you make a 90 degrees right turn leaving the track and going for the summit. This last bit is quite steep and entirely off track, although not difficult at all.
The views from the top are wonderful. You can clearly see Hawea Lake and all the surrounding mountains.
To go down we follow the same path that took us to the top.
